「움직이는 땅, 숨쉬는 정원」은 2026 서울국제정원박람회 기업정원 부문에 출품되어 처음으로 세상에 공개된 랜드아트형 정원입니다. 기존 정원과는 완전히 다른 형태의 과감한 미니멀리즘과, 공원 대지의 일부가 솟아 올랐다가 다시 내려가는 독특한 연출은 관람객들에게 강렬한 인상을 남겼습니다. “Moving Land, Breathing Garden” was first introduced at the Corporate Garden section of the 2026 Seoul International Garden Show. Its bold minimalist design and the unusual sight of the ground rising and sinking created a strong impression on visitors.
"버튼을 누르시오." 아무것도 없을 것 같던 평평한 대지 위에는 네모난 상자 하나만 덩그러니 놓여 있었습니다. 그 위에 적힌 엉뚱한 문구와 몇 개의 조작 버튼은 관람객들에게 호기심과 당혹감을 동시에 안겨주었습니다. 그리고 누군가 버튼을 눌렀습니다. 순간 육중한 기계음과 함께 땅이 천천히 솟아오르기 시작했고, 사람들은 처음 보는 광경에 눈을 떼지 못한 채 바라보았습니다.누군가는 깜짝 놀랐고, 누군가는 환하게 웃었습니다. 특히 아이들은 마치 새로운 놀이기구를 발견한 듯 작품 위로 뛰어올라 온몸으로 그 특별한 경험을 즐겼습니다. "Press the Button." A small box stood alone on what seemed to be an empty, flat piece of land. The strange message and a few control buttons on top left visitors both curious and confused. Then someone pressed the button. With a deep mechanical sound, the ground slowly began to rise. People stood and watched, unable to look away from the unexpected scene. Some were surprised. Others smiled with excitement. Children, especially, rushed onto the structure and enjoyed the experience as if they had discovered a new playground ride.
화려한 장식과 다양한 볼거리로 가득한 다른 정원들과 달리, 이 정원에는 바닥 위의 거대한 원형과 케이크 조각을 닮은 삼각형의 땅 덩어리, 그리고 네모난 컨트롤 박스 만이 놓여 있었습니다. 극도로 절제된 기하학적 형태가 만들어내는 세련된 분위기는 마치 하나의 현대미술 작품을 마주한 듯한 인상을 남겼습니다. Unlike many gardens filled with decorations and attractions, this garden featured only a large circle, a cake-slice-shaped piece of land, and a simple control box. The highly minimal geometric forms created a refined atmosphere, giving visitors the feeling of looking at a work of contemporary art.
관객의 참여를 통해 손끝으로 직접 움직이는 거대한 흙 덩어리 조형물은 큰 인기를 얻었습니다. 한때는 끊임없는 연속 작동으로 인해 과열이 발생하여 차단기가 내려가 일시적인 정전 상황이 발생하기도 했으나, 이후 전기 용량을 증설하고 배선을 정비하여 현재는 안정적으로 정상 운영되고 있습니다. (참고로 2026 서울숲 정원박람회는 개장 첫날 30만 명이 방문했으며, 행사 기간 동안 총 1500만 명의 방문이 예상됩니다.) The large soil sculpture, which visitors could move directly with their hands, became extremely popular. At one point, continuous operation caused overheating, leading to a temporary power outage when a circuit breaker was triggered. The issue was later resolved by increasing electrical capacity and reorganizing the wiring, and the system is now operating stably. (다만 지진이 일상적인 지역의 경우에는 이러한 연출이 불편하거나 공포로 받아들여질 수 있는 점도 고려되어야 겠지만요.) Children were thrilled by the unfamiliar installation, and adults also joined in, making the area one of the most popular selfie spots. Even a modest 1-meter rise and fall created a strong reaction. This was not simply about height, but about the unexpected sensation of the ground itself moving beneath one’s feet. Combined with media art visuals and earthquake-like sound effects, the experience created a mix of excitement, tension, and curiosity about what might happen next. (However, in regions where earthquakes are a part of daily life, such effects may be perceived as uncomfortable or even frightening, and should be carefully considered.)

체험 중심의 시설로서 기능하며 관람객에게 직접적인 참여 경험을 제공합니다. 반면 밤이 되면 안전상의 이유로 탑승형 체험은 제한되고, 대신 화려한 미디어 아트가 펼쳐집니다. 특히 땅이 마치 조각 케이크처럼 잘려 나간 듯한 움푹 패인 공간에는 세계 각 지역의 토양과 지층 단면을 형형색색의 영상으로 표현한 콘텐츠가 투사되어 강렬한 시각적 인상을 남깁니다. 이는 우리가 평소 인식하지 못하는 ‘땅 아래의 세계’를 상기시키는 역할을 합니다. 이 두 가지 연출은 정밀하게 설정된 GPS 기반 타이머 시스템에 의해 자동으로 전환됩니다. This Land Art project has two distinct faces. During the day, it functions as an interactive installation where visitors can experience the move- ment of the ground. At night, for safety reasons, physical interaction is limited and the work transforms into a media art installation. In particular, the sunken areas—shaped like sliced pieces of cake— display vivid visual projections of soil layers and geological cross-sections from around the world. These images remind visitors of the hidden world beneath the ground that we usually do not see. The transition between the two modes is precisely controlled by a GPS-based timing system.
The message of soil to us
땅 속을 잘라 그 내부를 드러내는 이번 랜드아트 작품은 대중에게 이렇게 말합니다. 우리가 두 발로 딛고 서 있는 이 땅은 지금 이 순간에도 끊임없이 움직이고 변화하고 있습니다. 땅은 결코 정지된 존재가 아니라, 살아 움직이는 유기적인 세계입니다. 우리가 서 있는 이 지면은 단순한 무생물이 아니라, 지속적으로 변화하는 살아 있는 존재입니다. 이 작품은 우리가 자연과 흙을 바라보는 관점을 다시 정의하게 만드는 경험의 장이 됩니다. This Land Art work, which reveals the inside of the earth by cutting into the ground, speaks to the public: The ground we stand on is constantly moving and changing. It is not a fixed surface, but a living system in motion. The earth beneath our feet is not a lifeless material, but something that is alive and continuously transforming. This work invites us to rethink how we see nature and the soil beneath us.
