By integrating mechanical movement into a friendly, pill-shaped brand character, this piece dynamically captures the company’s heritage and future vision through engaging, lifelike motion.

2014 한독 60주년 기념 움직이는 알약 캐릭터 설치 조형물 가족의 건강을 최우선으로 생각하는 한독(구 한독제약)의 기업 정신을 ‘캡슐 인형’이라는 직관적인 심볼로 시각화한 작품. 러시아 전통 인형 ‘마트료시카’에서 모티브를 얻어 디자인되었다.

기업 브랜드 PR을 목적으로 기획된 이 캐릭터 조형물은 강남 테헤란로 한독 본사 외벽에 약 20m 높이의 철골 축조물로 설치되었다. 기계 공학적 설계를 바탕으로 동력장치를 내장한 키네틱 아트(Kinetic Art) 공법을 적용하여, 실시간으로 알약이 분해되고 결합하는 역동적인 움직임을 연출한다. 특히 의약품을 전면에 노출할 수 없는 심의 규정상의 제약 조건을 캡슐 형태의 은유적 캐릭터 디자인으로 돌파, 옥외광고가 아닌 순수 설치 미술품으로 승인 및 허가를 받아낸 전략적 시도가 돋보이는 작품이다.

2014 Handok 60th Anniversary Kinetic Pill Character Installation An installation that visualizes the corporate philosophy of Handok (formerly Handok Pharmaceuticals)—prioritizing family health—through the intuitive symbol of a "capsule doll." The character design draws its motif from the traditional Russian Matryoshka nesting dolls.

Envisioned for corporate brand PR, this character sculpture was erected as a 20-meter-tall steel structure on the facade of the Handok headquarters on Teheran-ro, Gangnam. Built on mechanical engineering and embedded power units, the kinetic art piece delivers a dynamic performance as the pills separate and recombine in real time. Notably, to navigate strict advertising regulations prohibiting the direct display of pharmaceutical products, the identity of the company was metaphorically reinterpreted into a capsule character. This strategic approach allowed the project to be classified as pure installation art rather than outdoor advertising, successfully securing installation permits from the local government.
